Sweet Child

What’s going on these days? Are we that over-sentimental? Running on a short emotional fuse? Hurt as soon as the ego is questioned? This is not how you build a healthy individual.
We want a world free of hurt, of pain, and of any sort of verbal “abuse”. And that’s a word that has been stretched far and beyond. Verbal abuse could start from expressing unfavorable opinions towards someone to calling her or him names. Bad names. Bad names are bad, but constructive unfavorable opinion is not bad. It’s encouraging. Nowadays, parents cannot say words that might hurt their kids and push them toward more negative reactions. That’s what they think. In the past, parents punished their kids in ways to help them do better. By punishing, I mean grounding, telling it as is, and sometimes little spanking, which was unnecessary. A parent who explains to their kids in truthful ways and constructive manner their opinion about a poor result at school for instance, gives the kid an incentive to do better. Parents who sugar-coat everything, smile, and encourage their kid to do better without explaining what they truly thought, give the child no reason to try harder or get better. Kids grow up to be adults and only then the hard reality of false opinions hit. See in your child the man or woman they will one day become. Do you want them strong, resilient, and equipped, or do you want them crushed every time they suck at doing something. This is an all around situation and not limited to excelling at school or in sports. This is about how a child grows up to be responsible and capable. Not always a child waiting for a sweet word to boost an emotional ego.
